Vibe Attire

Concept: Music is a cherished form of art, relaxation and entertainment around the world. Music conveys emotion and culture. It is a timeless means of communication between the artist and the audi- ence. For many it is hard to imagine life without music. VibeAttire offers an alternative means of experiencing music for both those who create music and their audience.

Design: VibeAttire is a vest that uses standard audio input information and breaks it down into a vibrotactile experience. The vest accepts a standard audio jack. The channels of standard output are run through an amplifier and custom mixer in order to map certain frequency ranges to various vibra- tion motors embedded in the vest. Vibration motors are used instead of traditional speaker cones in order to reduce the vest size and weight. Tactile output also allows for a personal rather than public experience.

Development
- Specialized processor to map audio data to physical drivers.
- User testing to determine natural mappings of sound to physical sensation.

- Notification system in high sound environments; construction, air traffic, etc.
- Navigation Assistance for the blind.
- Enhances musical experience for use by themthe general public.
